THE EFFECTS OF BILAMELLAR PERICHONDRIAL DISSECTION ON THE GROWTH OF RABBIT EAR CARTILAGE

Abstract
The timing of correction of cleft lip nasal deformity has in a controversy, While some surgeon postpone the correction of the nose until development is complete for fear of interfering with growth, other surgeons commence more radical correction of the nose at the time of lip repair. Therefore, we investigated the effects of bilamellar perichondrial dissection on the growth of rabbit ear Cartilage. Sixteen 21-day-old rabbits were used in the study group. Among them, thirteen completed the study in which perichondrium was elevated from both cartilaginous surfaces of one ear and the other ear served as a control, By maturity, both ears had developed symmetrically and no statistically significant difference could be demonstrated in maximal length and maximal width.
